Tan Jin Xuan was a student at the county school. He had great faith in the practices of qigong for health and longevity. No matter the harshness of winter or the heat of summer, he persisted in his training without interruption. After a few months of practice, he felt that he had made some progress.
One day, while sitting cross-legged in meditation, he suddenly heard a faint buzzing sound in his ear, like the voice of a fly, saying: “It’s time to come out.” However, when he opened his eyes, the sound disappeared. When he closed his eyes again to adjust his breathing, the same voice returned. He believed that his internal energy training was nearing success, and he felt secretly pleased.
From then on, every time he meditated, he could hear that voice. He thought he should try responding next time to see what would happen. One day, when he heard the voice in his ear again, he quietly replied: “It’s time to come out.” Not long after, he felt a pain and itching in his ear, as if something was trying to emerge. Sneaking a glance, he saw a tiny figure, about three inches tall, with a grotesque and terrifying face, resembling a night demon, pacing around on the floor.
Startled, Tan Jin Xuan kept his focus on the little figure to see what it would do next. Suddenly, a neighbor came by, knocking on the door and calling his name to borrow something. Upon hearing the knocking, the little figure became panicked, circling around the room like a rat that couldn’t find an exit. At that moment, Tan Jin Xuan felt as though his very soul had left his body, and in a daze, he had no idea where the little figure had gone.
From that day on, Tan Jin Xuan became afflicted with a form of madness, constantly screaming and wailing. After taking medicine for over six months, he gradually began to recover.
