Desert of Love and Sorrow — Chapter 16: Fen Tian. Part 1

At the same time, in the same world, with the same face, different stories unfold.

For instance, under Ruo Wen’s tacit consent, Ge Xin Wei, who had already rebuilt the Yu clan’s power in Fen Tian, and Huang Bei Shuang, far away in Tian Du’s Ice Thorn Palace, may be similar in appearance, but their life paths were so different.

Now, Ge Xin Wei was no longer the lowly Ninth Princess of illegitimate birth but the rightful Queen of Fen Tian. Yet, she was a queen who sat alone in an empty palace. Her room had no vanity, no screens, no tables or chairs, no paintings or decorations—only a bed, the one bed that held memories of Ruo Wen.

She lay on the bed, gazing at the moon outside the window, her mind suddenly flashing with the face of Ruo Lanfei Wen, immersed in passion. She laughed bitterly at herself. Now she couldn’t even compare to Ruo Lanfei Wen. She had degraded herself to such an extent, and still, she couldn’t hold onto him.

Letting out a pained laugh, she lowered her head to the letter in her hand, a letter utterly devoid of warmth, and tears began to stream down her face.

“Boring!”

That was all it said. Just two words, written with grand strokes.

Seven days ago, she had discovered she was pregnant. There was no doubt that Ruo Wen was the father, and she had been ecstatic, celebrating with fireworks and a feast that lasted all night. Then she sent a message to Ruo Wen. Seven days later, the messenger returned, bringing only a piece of paper, with just two cold and heartless words.

As she thought of this, her throat tightened. She, who had not shed a tear even as her kin burned in the funeral pyre, now wept alone on this bed. Her sapphire eyes, filled with loneliness, stared out at the window...

“Oh God, why must you even take away my dreams?”

She cried her heart out, unable to understand how Ruo Wen could be so heartless. Even if he didn’t love her, could he not care for his own flesh and blood? He hadn’t even come to see her. How could someone be so cold?

In truth, coming from an aristocratic background, how could she have known about a certain saying that was passed around among the bandits?

“If I have a daughter, she’s a disgrace to me because one day she’ll be defiled. If I have a son, he’ll be my enemy because one day he’ll compete with me. So, better to have nothing at all. Even if they’re born, never acknowledge them. That way, when the day comes, an enemy is still an enemy, a woman is still a woman, and I’ll remain unchanged. I’ll always remain myself!”

So, what ordinary people see as happiness is, to those mad bandits, nothing but trouble, even a trap. They wouldn’t waste their energy on such matters. They didn’t desire a long life or peace and prosperity for the country. They never believed in karma. If they seemed simple, it was only because they were willing to exchange their lives for such simplicity.

Personal happiness is kept to oneself; personal pain is borne alone.

Such determination was something Ge Xin Wei would probably never understand.

Dreams fall with the sunrise, and the tides arrive at dawn...

In Qing Yun’s chamber, chaos reigned for the first time. Torn clothes lay scattered across the floor, and the air was heavy with the scent of alcohol. After the intense passion, his anger subsided somewhat. He placed a few kisses on Huang Bei Shuang’s sweat-soaked back before finally speaking. “What do you want, exactly?”

Huang Bei Shuang’s whole body ached. She lay on the edge of the bed, breathing heavily to regain her calm. “Trust me just this once, alright? If I leave Tian Du, I will never return to Yun Pei!” She closed her eyes, continuing, “Qing Yun, no matter where I go, I will always come back to you in the end.”

“Tomorrow morning, Tian Du’s army will march, and I’m bringing you with me!” Qing Yun’s gaze grew cold, his hands gripping her tightly.

“I’ll only hinder you!” She opened her eyes and looked at him. “Please listen to me this time! Will you?”

Qing Yun sat up at her words, his hand still resting on her back. Her exposed skin was beginning to grow cold, so he pulled up the blanket over her. His expression was complicated.
