Ten minutes passed, and still no response. It was already 9 PM. Was she taking a bath or maybe out somewhere?
While I wondered, it was finally my turn.
With a bright smile, I greeted her, “Shirayuki, thank you for always being an inspiration!” and extended my hand.
“It’s been a while, Akatsuki-san! Thank you for always supporting me!”
Ah, that voice. So soothing…
Her soprano voice and radiant smile had me feeling weak at the knees. Shirayuki even held my hand with both of hers. Apparently, she memorized the names of all the fans who came to these events.
One minute. Now, time to share the big news.
“Shirayuki, I… I actually got a girlfriend!”
“Oh, congratulations!”
She gripped my hand and gave it an enthusiastic shake. Girls sure do love romance talk.
“So, what kind of girlfriend do you have?”
“Well, she’s my childhood friend, the girl who’s always been by my side since we were kids. She’s my next-door neighbor, and we’re together all the time. As for the confession… it was kind of casual, like, ‘Should we date?’ and she took the lead…”
“A childhood friend who became a girlfriend… that’s wonderful!”
“I always thought of her as someone special, who knows me better than anyone, and now that we’re dating, every day feels even more fulfilling.”
I could never say stuff like this in front of Yuki…
“I’m glad to hear you’re so happy. So, what’s your end goal with her?”
“Well, she’s adorable, and I don’t want anyone else to steal her away, so… I’d like to marry her soon, just kidding.”
“I see, I see. Oh, even though you have a girlfriend now, will you still come to Shirayuki’s concerts?”
“O-of course! Actually, I’ll bring her next time.”
“Oh, I can’t wait to meet her!”
How many seconds do I have left? I glanced sideways and noticed that the staff member monitoring us had stepped away to take a call.
Suddenly, Shirayuki tightened her grip on my hand.
“Since you’re the last in line, let’s chat a little longer.”
“Y-yes…!”
Oh my god! Shirayuki herself is giving me extra time… I’m so glad to be alive…
“Actually, I once thought about quitting being an idol. But I’ve decided to keep going now, and I’m determined to do whatever it takes.”
Wait, so she’d been thinking of quitting recently? Well, I’m glad she changed her mind.
“So please, no matter what happens, continue to support me, okay?”
“Of course!”
After the handshake, we took a two-shot photo together, and I left the concert hall feeling absolutely thrilled.
“…He really wants to get married, huh? Hehe, I didn’t think he’d feel that way… Guess I’ll have to make my move so I don’t lose him…”

The Next Day
“Ahhh, that was amazing…”
Thinking back on the concert from yesterday, I let out a sigh of satisfaction.
How many times in my life will I get to see my favorite idol perform up close like that?
“Hey, don’t talk so close to my ear. It’s annoying.”
Yuki, my girlfriend, is sitting on my lap with her back against my chest, comfortably leaning all her weight onto me and relaxing.
“Just look at her. Isn’t Shirayuki adorable?”
I showed her the two-shot photo I took at the handshake event.
“Yeah, yeah, she’s cute,” Yuki replied, slightly pouting as she looked at the photo on my phone. Normally, her long, wavy black hair is tied in a ponytail, but today she has it in a two-sided-up style. She looks a lot like Shirayuki, but I decide to keep that thought to myself since she’d probably get mad.
“Come to Shirayuki’s concert with me next time, Yuki. You’ll totally get hooked.”
I’ve tried inviting her before, but either our schedules didn’t align, or she’d turn me down, so she’s never been to one of Shirayuki’s concerts.
“No way.”
“Why not?”
“Well… wait, is that your Shirayuki on TV?”
Yuki pointed at the TV. There was a breaking news banner scrolling across the screen…
“Breaking News: Shirayuki Yukino, Center of Popular Idol Group Shiny*Crusher, Announces Marriage to a Regular Guy!?”
M-marriage? What the heck…?
“Wh-what!?”
“Geez, you’re so loud.”
Yuki covered her ears. That one’s on me.
“This has to be fake!”
I quickly checked the fan club’s official page, only to find a statement confirming that Shirayuki Yukino is in a serious relationship with the intent to marry. Maybe the news exaggerated it, but a relationship with marriage in mind is practically the same as an announcement of marriage.
“No way…”
Oh no, I think I’m about to cry…
“Hmmm, even though you have a girlfriend, you’re swooning over another girl?”
“I’m not swooning! I’m devastated!! Girlfriend and idol—those are totally different!”
It’s true that Shirayuki’s agency doesn’t ban relationships, but I heard Shirayuki’s a university student.
Will she actually get married while she’s still in college? Is her boyfriend a college student? Or maybe he’s already working? Either way, if he ever makes Shirayuki cry, he’s dead meat!
