The Supreme Goddess Bai Shuo — Chapter 15. Part 1

“Rotten donkey, stop right there!” Bai Shuo shouted, chasing after the disloyal donkey through the forest. Mu Fan trailed behind them at a relaxed pace, somehow always staying close enough to keep Bai Shuo within his sight.

“Oh, I’m exhausted…” Bai Shuo, who had never done hard work in her life, couldn’t keep up with a four-legged animal. Gasping for breath, she pointed at the fleeing donkey, eyes narrowed with anger. “Just you wait… I’ll roast you on a spit and turn you into donkey roast…”

Halfway through her threat, she heard the rapid pounding of hooves speeding up.

Bai Shuo looked up in confusion, only to see the donkey suddenly turn around and bolt toward her.

Why is it coming back? Could it be that this beast has grown a conscience? But before she could finish the thought, Bai Shuo understood the reason for the donkey’s unexpected return.

In the depths of the forest, a pack of wild wolves was now chasing the donkey with terrifying speed, closing in fast.

“Oh no, no, no—WOLVES!” Without hesitation, Bai Shuo turned to run for her life. But if she couldn’t outrun a donkey, there was no chance she could outrun wolves. Just before she tripped on a branch, she managed to grab onto something—the tail of the donkey that was once again trying to flee!

The donkey could never have imagined that this woman, in her final moments, would try to drag someone down with her!

Man and donkey tripped and tumbled together, crashing into a heap. In that brief moment of delay, the wolves surrounded them, forming a tight, menacing circle.

“You crazy woman! If you’re going down, why take me with you?” The donkey’s eyes were wide, practically blazing with fury.

Bai Shuo glared back at it, eyes blazing even fiercer. “Haven’t you heard? Even in death, I’ll drag someone down with me! I’m not going to the underworld alone!”

Man and donkey stared each other down in mutual fury, but a dark shadow fell over them as they heard the wolves panting heavily, their green eyes glowing with menace, just inches away.

Man and donkey clung tightly to each other, trembling in unison.

Three wolves stepped forward, their sharp claws extended, leaping toward Bai Shuo and the donkey.

“Help! Earth God, Kitchen God, Matchmaker, save me!” Bai Shuo squeezed her eyes shut, burying her face in the donkey’s neck.

I’m going to die! I haven’t even become an immortal yet! Is there really an underworld? Will it be cold? I haven’t had a good meal either—how pitiful to be a starving ghost…

With a loud “thud,” a wolf’s enraged howl echoed around them.

A thousand thoughts raced through Bai Shuo’s mind, yet the anticipated pain of wolf fangs sinking into her never came. She peeked out from the donkey’s neck and saw a young man holding a wooden stick, standing protectively in front of her—it was Mu Fan.

One wolf had been struck in the eye, and the pack snarled even more ferociously, their breaths heavy and hot.

“Brother Mu!” Bai Shuo’s eyes filled with grateful tears, almost ready to call him “Dad.”

“Don’t be afraid, Xiao (Little) Bai. Stay behind me—I’ll protect you!” Mu Fan had picked up a sturdy branch from somewhere. Though his shoulder was bloodied, he held his ground, shielding Bai Shuo without retreating a step.

“You’re hurt!” Bai Shuo cried, her voice trembling with worry.

“It’s nothing!” Mu Fan’s lips pressed into a firm line. “I’ll distract them. Xiao Bai, find a chance to run!”

With a fierce shout, Mu Fan charged at the wolves with his stick. Bai Shuo stood there, momentarily stunned, as she hadn’t expected Mu Fan to come to her rescue.

“Brother Mu!” she shouted, but it was too late—Mu Fan was already locked in a fierce struggle with the wolves. Though he was young, he fought with unyielding courage, standing his ground to protect Bai Shuo. In moments, he was covered in wounds from the wolves’ bites.
