At 1:20 PM, in the offices of Kailier Corporation, the employees were still deep in their lunchtime slumber. The entire floor exuded a drowsy atmosphere.
A loud flushing sound came from the restroom. Ban Xia stood before the mirror, touched up her makeup, adjusted her hair, and confidently pushed open the door to step out.
Her confidence was well-founded. This young woman, only a year and a half out of college, had already climbed to the position of Deputy Manager of the Marketing Department. Her photo hung prominently in the office, with the words “Gold Star Salesperson” below it. It was hard for her not to radiate pride.
“Excuse me, could you tell me what time the company starts work?” a deep male voice asked suddenly as she approached the office's glass doors, stopping Ban Xia in her tracks.
Ban Xia immediately smiled, revealing six neat white teeth, and slightly narrowed her eyes. “Lunch break ends at 1:30 PM. You’re ten minutes early.”
The man made a low sound of acknowledgment, adjusted his glasses, and hesitated, unsure if he should step into the office.
“My lunch break is over, though. If you don’t mind, you can wait in my office,” Ban Xia offered with a spring-like warmth in her smile, instantly dispelling the man's awkwardness.
In the Deputy Manager’s office, after a few polite exchanges and half a cup of tea, Ban Xia had already gathered most of the details about this man.
His surname was Ruan, and he was the newly appointed Office Director of Research Institute 602. Ban Xia thoughtfully addressed him as “Director Ruan.”
“Director Ruan, are you here to purchase women’s products?” she asked after a bit of small talk, resting her chin on her hand as her long lashes fluttered slightly. Her innocent charm turned Director Ruan’s face bright red.
“Yes… um… how did you know, Miss Ban?”
“It’s only a few days until Women’s Day,” Ban Xia replied with a light laugh, frowning slightly. “But honestly, Director, shouldn’t your Women’s Committee handle these things? It’s not right for them to trouble you with it.”
Director Ruan coughed, looking aggrieved as he quickly nodded in agreement.
“You have no idea,” he said, venting, “our Women’s Committee head is pregnant and acts like I’m her personal servant…”
He froze mid-sentence, wide-eyed, wondering why he was unloading his grievances to a girl he’d just met.
Ban Xia’s harmless sweetness had that effect—effortlessly breaking down the barriers of any man’s heart.
“I was actually here to meet your Sales Manager, Mr. Xu, in the Sanitation Department,” Ruan explained after licking his lips to shift the topic. “My fault for coming early.”
Ban Xia frowned again and sighed. “Oh, let me guess—laundry detergent and shampoo again? The same old routine.”
Director Ruan adjusted his glasses, about to ask what she meant, but Ban Xia had already opened a drawer with a flourish. She pulled out a sleek plastic package, revealing a pristine white sanitary pad.
“Director Ruan, you might consider this instead. It’s a new product from our company: dry, breathable, and leakproof. Now this is the kind of thoughtful product women need,” she said softly, running her finger lightly over the dry mesh surface.
Director Ruan’s face turned beet red.
“I can demonstrate it for you,” Ban Xia added, her voice even softer. She glanced around and grabbed a half-empty bottle of cough syrup from her desk. Carefully unscrewing the cap, she poured the entire contents over the pad in one go.
Director Ruan’s face was now a deep shade of purple.
Ban Xia’s eyelids lifted slightly, her gaze suddenly alluring, as her voice turned coquettish. “Director Ruan, you can try it for yourself. See? The surface is still dry—no stickiness, no dampness.”
Director Ruan’s heart pounded as if it would leap out of his chest. Hesitating for a moment, he reached out a trembling finger to gently touch the pad’s surface.
The intimate nature of the product, combined with the syrup named after the girl before him, gave him an odd sensation. It felt as though he was touching not a dry mesh surface but Ban Xia’s soft, smooth skin.
