It all started as a fleeting whim.
There was a boy in the corner seat of the classroom, always reading a book alone. His name was Makabe Makoto.
With a perpetually cold and unapproachable demeanor, like he was wearing an emotional mask, no one in the class tried to get close to him. Even though six months had passed since we moved up to our final year, he was still a loner. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure he had any friends.
We’d only spoken once when we were assigned as class monitors together. But even then, his answers were limited to a simple “yes” or “no.”
No matter how gently I tried to guide the conversation, he would easily cast aside my efforts. I clearly remember feeling irritated by his attitude.
So this was just a petty form of revenge. The thought of watching him panic and squirm filled me with a mischievous sense of satisfaction.
Or so I thought—

“Sure, sounds good.”
“Huh?”
Makabe-kun accepted my confession without so much as a flinch.
He looked up from the book he was holding with one hand and fixed me with a cool gaze, his expression calm and composed.
“What? We’re dating now, right?”
“Uh, y-yeah, I guess, but…”
“Hmm? Did I say something strange?”
I couldn’t understand it. Why? Why was I, of all people, confessing, and yet he remained completely unshaken?
I, Sudou Miki, renowned for my stunning beauty and graceful charm, adored by everyone for my kind and fair demeanor, practically a goddess walking among mortals. People stopped and stared when I walked down the street, so why was he the only one…?!
“Sudou-san, why are you spacing out?”
“! N-nothing, it’s nothing!”
That was close—my true feelings almost slipped out. I’d have to be more careful from now on.
Crossing my arms, I forced a confident smile, determined to regain some semblance of control.
“Well, then. Let’s start dating. I’m counting on you, okay?”
With that, I left Makabe-kun’s desk.
My initial plan—to enjoy his panicked reaction—had completely failed. But I still had time.
From here, I’d take it slow. I’d gradually back him into a corner, make him fall head over heels for my beauty. Slowly, I’d make him think of nothing but me. Then, at the moment when he was utterly blinded by love, I’d whisper in his ear:
“That confession? It was all a lie from the start.”
I couldn’t wait. I could already picture his reaction when he found out it was a prank.
But don’t hate me, okay? After all, Makabe-kun, this is your fault.
While everyone else admired my beauty, you alone wore that indifferent face. My pride simply couldn’t let that slide.
So I’ll make you understand.
You’ll learn you can’t stay that composed forever—

“Hey, Maa-kun! Why won’t you kiss me?”
“Hold on, Miki… I just kissed you, didn’t I? Can we at least take a break between—”
“Why are you so cold?! Come on, pleeease, just one more time!”
“Stop clinging to me, seriously…”
But I was the one who ended up learning a lesson.
Six years had passed since that confession, and somehow, I’d completely fallen for him.
Even now, at 7 a.m., his sharp, handsome eyes gleamed with a quiet intensity. His broad chest and biceps couldn’t be hidden, even under long-sleeved pajamas. And that face… so undeniably attractive.
Overwhelmed by his natural charm, I couldn’t help but throw myself into his arms again. Not that I hadn’t already done so countless times.
“Ahhh, you smell so good~! Maa-kun, you’re too perfect, it’s painful…”
“Miki… I really need to eat breakfast. If I’m late for work, it’ll be a problem.”
“Who cares about work? Maa-kun, what’s more important—me or your job?!”
“My job.”
“Aaaahhh!! You’re so cold today too, Maa-kun!”
Even when he brushed me off, I still found myself falling for him all over again.
Ever since we started living together, he only seemed to get cooler by the day.
Like now. Watching him yawn as he walked to the kitchen, his back turned to me, I couldn’t resist getting out of bed and following after him.
“Miki, can you help me out?”
When I got to the kitchen, Maa-kun was looking around, seemingly searching for something.
