The Supreme Goddess Bai Shuo — Chapter 26. Part 2

“This slip,” Song Feng began, struggling to speak, “is a collection of the celestial energy from our sect’s successive heads. With my celestial essence, it’s now condensed into a force equal to the peak of an Upper Lord. Take it, Chong Zhao. You and Er Yun, along with our elite disciples, must go to the Fire-Ice Island. Use this slip to reactivate the seal your master left behind and trap that monster back within the spring.”

His breath came in shallow gasps as he clutched Er Yun’s hand tightly. “If you cannot seal it… if every last one of us must perish on Fire-Ice Island, then destroy that spring. Promise me!”

Seeing the desperate determination in Song Feng's bloodshot eyes, Er Yun felt a shiver of dread. Though usually proud and confident, this crisis upon them left her paralyzed with fear.

“Master Uncle, even if it costs us our lives, we will ensure this evil never emerges to harm anyone! Rest assured, Senior Sister, let’s go!” Chong Zhao held the bamboo slip firmly, pulling Er Yun towards the hall’s exit, but Song Feng’s voice halted them.

“Wait!” They turned to see Song Feng’s face cast in a peculiar expression as he gestured for Er Yun. “Er Yun, stay. I have one more thing to tell you. Chong Zhao, go gather the others.”

“Yes, Master Uncle.” Chong Zhao nodded. Understanding this mission might mean certain death, his mind turned to Bai Shuo as he hurriedly left.

The booming sound of thunder interrupted his thoughts as streaks of light darted across the dark and turbulent sea. With each mile southward, the storm grew fiercer, and the overwhelming aura of the dark force felt increasingly near.

Chong Zhao held the jade slip at his side, recalling everything he had learned in the hall. His expression was dark and determined.

Flying beside him, Er Yun observed his tense face, her expression conflicted, holding a hint of suspicion.

Uncle, if it’s as you suspect… then who is this person before me?

A half-stick of incense before, Chong Zhao had departed, leaving Er Yun alone in the hall with Song Feng. She approached him, her eyes questioning. “Uncle…?”

“Er Yun, come closer… There is something I need to tell you…” Song Feng beckoned her over.

Bending to listen, Er Yun’s eyes widened as Song Feng whispered a shocking secret. “Uncle?!”

Taking her hand firmly, Song Feng’s gaze was piercing. “Remember this, Er Yun—trust no one. The future of Miao Miao Island rests in your hands!”

With her eyes welling up, Er Yun could barely nod, finally choking out, “Uncle, rest assured, I won’t fail you!”

Song Feng managed a faint nod before collapsing from exhaustion.

“Senior Sister, we’re here!” a voice called, pulling Chong Zhao and Er Yun from their thoughts.

With a wave, Chong Zhao halted the group just outside the dark and ominously silent island. The disciples looked uneasily at the strange mists cloaking Fire-Ice Island. Despite the clear, bright sky, the area around the island was dark as night, veiled in heavy, eerie mists. Waves of evil energy enveloped the island and were spreading into the surrounding sea, freezing the ocean in their path, instantly shattering any creatures caught within.

“Form the barrier! Contain that evil energy!” Chong Zhao ordered sharply. The disciples raised their swords in unison, summoning a vast protective array to enclose the spreading darkness.

The dark energy thrashed violently against the celestial barrier, causing the disciples to pale as they struggled to hold the formation.

“Junior Brother, we’re running out of time!” Er Yun warned, her face tense. “We must seal the spring before it breaks free; otherwise, all of the Eastern Sea is doomed!”

Chong Zhao nodded, tossing the jade slip into the air. The slip released a beam of celestial light that pierced through the dark aura surrounding the island.

“Break!” Chong Zhao shouted, and a passageway opened through the black mist.

“Go!” He seized the opportunity, pulling Er Yun along as they rushed onto the island.

As soon as their feet touched the ground, they found an eerie stillness on Fire-Ice Island. Apart from the suffocating silence, it was unsettlingly calm.

Taking the jade slip from his belt, Chong Zhao activated a spell, causing the slip to pulse with intense, radiant light, directing them to a location deep within the island. “It’s there!” he pointed southward. “The slip can sense the dark energy—right there is where the spring must be. Come on, Senior Sister!”

“Wait!” Er Yun suddenly blocked his way, stretching out her hand. “Junior Brother, give me the slip.”

Chong Zhao hesitated, confused. “Senior Sister…”

“Junior Brother,” Er Yun spoke slowly, her tone unyielding. “When you left the main hall, did you visit the medicinal garden?”

Chong Zhao froze, a look of concern knitting his brow.

Half a stick of incense before, Chong Zhao had left the main hall. Reaching a secluded corner, he drew out a bamboo flute from his robes.

“A-Shuo! A-Shuo!” he called, infusing it with energy.

The flute gave no response, and Chong Zhao’s face paled as he tried again. “A-Shuo? A-Shuo?!”
