Cosmic Dust Is Not as Precious as You — Chapter 5. Golden Years. Part 9

Gu Yu’s words felt like a bucket of cold water poured over me. Whenever he was around Chen Qiao Luo, it was as if he transformed into someone else—sharp, bitter, even hysterical.

I knew that Gu Yu’s confession and everything he had said to me were not genuine. He was only doing it because I was the person Chen Qiao Luo liked. He wanted to take that away, to steal it. Even though I understood, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of pity for him. To me, both he and Chen Qiao Luo were just two pitiful boys who had lost their fathers.

Chen Qiao Luo’s emotions spiraled out of control after hearing Gu Yu’s words. Without replying, he threw another punch at Gu Yu.

Not one to back down, Gu Yu retaliated, and soon the two of them were locked in a fierce fight.

My stomach, already aching, began to throb even more as I watched them. Cold sweat trickled down my forehead as I gritted my teeth and shouted, “Stop it! Stop fighting!”

But my words fell on deaf ears. As the nearby tables and chairs were knocked over, I forced myself to endure the pain and stumbled toward them, determined to break up the fight.

However, as soon as I got close, a stray punch landed squarely on my face. Pain exploded across my cheek, and I cried out instinctively.

That was when they finally noticed me and stopped. Both of them froze, their fists still raised. Overwhelmed by the pain, I crouched down, holding my face.

Seeing me like that, Chen Qiao Luo rushed to my side and supported me. His voice was filled with panic as he asked, “Yun Hao, are you okay? Are you hurt?”

I gritted my teeth and endured the pain for a while before lifting my head. My voice was cold as I said, “Chen Qiao Luo, have you had enough?”

I felt his hand, which was supporting me, tremble slightly. A bitter smile appeared on his face as he replied, “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have made a fuss. I shouldn’t have disturbed you.”

He let go of my hand and stood up, looking down at me. His eyes were deep and sorrowful, like an endless ocean. “Zhu Yun Hao, I wish you happiness,” he said.

With that, he turned and walked away without a hint of hesitation.

A sudden clap of thunder echoed through the air. I snapped out of my daze and tried to call after him, but his silhouette had already disappeared at the door.

I struggled to chase after him, desperate to explain everything, but Gu Yu stopped me. He looked at me and said, “Zhu Yun Hao, in your current state, you’re still thinking about going after him? You’ll collapse before you even find him.”

But so what? The only thought in my mind was to explain everything to Chen Qiao Luo.

Pushing Gu Yu aside, I ran out.

The rain outside was heavier than before, and the wind along the corridor chilled me to the bone. I managed to reach the door of Chen Qiao Luo’s classroom, but it was completely dark inside.

I don’t know when Gu Yu followed me, but he appeared behind me and said, “He’s already gone, Zhu Yun Hao. Stop looking for him.”

Stop looking?

How could I stop looking? I had hurt him. I knew how sensitive and fragile his heart was, yet I kept hurting him over and over again. Because he liked me, my actions hurt him even more deeply.

Ignoring Gu Yu’s words, I dragged my weak body downstairs. The ground in front of the teaching building was littered with yellow leaves, battered down by the wind and rain. As soon as I stepped outside, the downpour drenched me completely. But I felt nothing, as if I’d lost all sensation, and kept walking forward.

I had to find him. I had to find Chen Qiao Luo.

This thought grew stronger and stronger in my mind.

The track field? Empty. The science building? Empty. The school gates? Empty. It seemed like there wasn’t a single corner of the school where Chen Qiao Luo could be found.

Sadness, coupled with overwhelming dizziness, overtook me. Just as I was about to faint, I thought I heard Gu Yu’s voice calling my name. It was so close yet so far away.
