Saint or not, Lena could stand to read the room. And she needs to realize sooner rather than later that no matter what, she cannot marry Edward. She’s only going to get hurt.
And Edward?
How could you behave like this, flaunting your feelings for Lena in front of your fiancée? It’s unbelievable. In my past life, we called men like this idiots, jerks, or trash. Oh dear, excuse my language.
Does Edward even know he can’t marry Lena? I know it because of my bride training, but… Wait, could it be that crown prince education doesn’t cover this? What?! Is he just plain stupid?!
The old me would’ve cried at this point. But thanks to my memories of my past life, my mental resilience has improved.
Three months passed since the parade, during which I endured Edward and Lena’s irritating and unsettling behavior.
According to tradition, Saints are supposed to reside at the church after the parade. Yet, for some reason, Lena remained at the royal palace.
The church repeatedly protested to the kingdom, but the King refused to send Lena back.
“Edward, you need to send Lady Lena back to the church immediately. Why is she still at the palace? It’s been three months.”
“Rachel, don’t make me repeat myself. Lena wants to stay at the palace. Besides, she fully understands her role as a Saint.
If a demon possession happens, the news will reach the palace. She’ll go when the time comes. There’s no problem.”
“But shouldn’t she be training for exorcisms? Can that even be done at the palace? No one knows how to exorcise demons!”
“It’s fine. Lena has holy powers. Demons will flee just at the sight of her. And let’s be honest, demons don’t really show up anyway.”
“What are you talking about? Demons might appear—that’s why God chose Lena as the Saint!”
“Oh, come on, Rachel. That’s just a fairy tale. You’re so pure, it’s almost amusing.
Wait… are you jealous of Lena?”
"Good grief… What on earth is he even saying? (I want to punch him.)"
Even the Pope, as the representative of the Church, had appealed directly to the royal family, but to no avail. Frustrated, he had come to me seeking help. Naturally, I offered my cooperation, but conversations like this went absolutely nowhere.
I couldn’t count how many times I barely held myself back from hitting someone out of sheer irritation.
What on earth was going on?
Other oddities stood out as well.
Not only was I refused every request to meet with Lena, but even more suspiciously, I was no longer able to meet the King or Queen either.
Granted, they were never easy to meet without an appointment, but being completely unable to schedule one was undeniably abnormal.
“Even as the daughter of the Lindol Marquis, not even you can move His Highness Edward… What a troubling situation,” lamented Philip, the current Pope and the King’s younger brother, sitting across from me.
