My Senior Reina Kaima, One Year Above Me, is a Perfect Beauty
Reina Kaima-senpai is a flawless woman: stunningly beautiful and remarkably intelligent.
On top of that, she’s the ace of the kendo club, with countless championship victories to her name. She’s admired by every student in the school, and, as if that weren’t enough, she’s dating Jin Miyamachi-senpai, a handsome and popular guy. She’s my ideal senior, someone I deeply admire, without a single visible flaw.
One day, this perfect senior approached me.
“After today’s practice, could I borrow some of your time?”
I agreed without hesitation.
Her final competition is just around the corner. Of course, Reina-senpai is a strong contender for the championship, and she’s been putting extra effort into her training.
After practice ended, I ended up walking home with her, just the two of us.
“I’ve been troubled lately,” she confessed.
“You’re troubled?” I asked.
“…I feel like I might crumble under all the pressure,” she murmured in a faint voice, looking down.
“The pressure to always win championships in kendo, the expectation from teachers to remain the top student academically… I could handle just those, but yesterday, during a date, Jin said, ‘I have high hopes for you,’ ‘Reina never fails,’ and, ‘Let’s aim for the same university.’ My parents have been saying the same kind of things too.”
When she lifted her face, she looked utterly exhausted.
“Since I was little, people have always, always expected me to be perfect. If I fail, I can feel the disappointment in their eyes… Honestly, I’m tired.”
“Se-Senpai…”
“Sorry for venting to you like this…”
Three days later, during practice, Reina-senpai got injured. It became uncertain if she could participate in the competition.
While heading to the library, I accidentally overheard Reina-senpai talking with Jin Miyamachi-senpai. Unable to resist my curiosity, I eavesdropped.
“Injuries happen. It’s something that can occur even when giving your best effort,” Jin said.
“Yeah… That’s true,” she replied.
“Besides, kendo isn’t everything. Use this frustration as motivation and focus on your studies. You’re perfect, Reina.”
“You’re right. I’ll do my best. Thank you, Jin.”
Even after Jin left, Reina-senpai stayed in place, not moving.
“Are you okay?” I asked out of concern.
“Oh, it’s you. I’m fine,” she said with a faint smile, though she lacked her usual energy.
“I got injured, and now I’m prohibited from practicing until the competition.”
“I see…”
