Loving You Was the Best Thing I Ever Did — Chapter 2: Licorice. Part 4

Shen Xi Fan chuckled. “There’s actually someone you can’t deal with?” She glanced through the files and suddenly understood. “Yan Heng, CEO of Zhong Yu. Hmm—I don’t have much on him either…”

Xu Xiang Ya pretended to faint. “I’m just venting! Work is hard, getting paid is harder, and serving people is the hardest!”

Shen Xi Fan waved the documents at her. “Study them carefully. Any mistakes, and it’ll be your head on the chopping block!”

Xu Xiang Ya burst into laughter. “Yes, ma’am!”

Five days later, the president of “MT,” Ling Yu Fan, checked in. General Manager Cheng had emphasized multiple times that this was the VIP of VIPs and must be treated with utmost care. Ling Yu Fan, the third son of the Ling family, was in charge of their electronics division, backed by the powerful Ling conglomerate. “MT” was the undisputed leader in the IT industry, and Ling Yu Fan himself was a prodigy—holding a PhD in Electronics and a Master’s in Business from Harvard.

Later, Shen Xi Fan would realize just how difficult he was to handle.

Not only was he exceptionally striking, with enchanting eyes that seemed to draw people in and a magnetic aura, but his demanding nature was overwhelming. Switching from the presidential suite in Jing Pavilion to a villa, he constantly found fault with the facilities and cleanliness. At times, Shen Xi Fan felt like smothering him with a pillow out of sheer frustration.

To make matters worse, he seemed indifferent to her, exuding an air of aloof disdain.

On Ling Yu Fan’s last day, Yan Heng, the CEO of Zhong Yu, arrived. General Manager Cheng personally received him, explaining that Yan Heng was the son of an old friend and was considering setting up a branch office in the area. With plans to host a product launch at Gu Nan Hua Pavilion, Yan Heng was an important client.

Shen Xi Fan was happy to let the GM handle him.

While heading to inspect the Jing Pavilion villas, a junior staff member rushed toward her, panicked.

“Manager, there’s a problem!”

It was Xiao Li from the luxury suites. Shen Xi Fan’s heart sank. “What happened?”

“A foreign guest fainted suddenly in their room. Manager Ding is already there, but GM Cheng is busy with guests, so he asked you to take a look.”

Fortunately, the guest had only fainted due to low blood sugar. The crisis was quickly resolved, much to everyone’s relief.

Returning to the front lobby, Shen Xi Fan noticed a Mercedes pull up. General Manager Cheng stepped out, accompanied by Yan Heng. Curiosity drew her gaze—until she froze in place.

Yan Heng wasn’t just any guest. He was Dai Heng.

Three years had passed since their breakup. He had matured, his youthful awkwardness replaced with an air of sophistication. Handsome and poised, he was worlds apart from the man she once knew.

Three years was enough to change so much.

Dai Heng—her first love. They had parted ways three years ago, vowing never to meet again. Yet here he was, walking back into her life. Was fate playing a cruel joke?

Dai Heng noticed her too. Their eyes met briefly, and her mind went blank.

General Manager Cheng, sensing the tension, introduced her. “This is our housekeeping manager, Manager Shen.”

Dai Heng’s tone was neutral, neither hiding nor emphasizing his recognition. “She seems familiar. Let’s go, Uncle Cheng.”

As he walked away, he glanced at Shen Xi Fan one last time before disappearing into the elevator.

Standing there, her emotions in turmoil, Shen Xi Fan let out a soft sigh before heading toward the villas. Unbeknownst to her, Lin Yi Shen had been watching from a nearby staircase, a resigned smile tugging at his lips.
