Loving You Was the Best Thing I Ever Did — Chapter 23: Longan. Part 1

It seemed like a long time had passed before he opened his eyes. The walls were stark white, and the air conditioner on the wall was whirring softly. Before he could react, a round little head buried itself in the snow-white bedding, accompanied by pitiful sobs.

“Uncle, you’re awake! I thought you were never going to wake up again. You scared me to death!”

Then came Qiu Tian’s voice, half-indulgent, half-helpless.
“Kid, your uncle just has a mild concussion. He’s just a heavy sleeper; that’s why he’s only waking up now.”

He Su Ye let out a sigh of relief.
“So, I’m in a hospital now? Which one?”

Qiu Tian shot him a look.
“Your dad’s hospital. When something happened to you, the first call was to the military hospital’s ambulance. Want some water? I’ll get you some.” He turned to find a cup.

He Shouzheng’s eyes were red, and he looked at him with a face full of grievance. He Su Ye wanted to reach out and pat his head but discovered his left arm was in a cast and his right arm wrapped in bandages. Muttering to himself, he said,
“Seems like I took quite the fall. Qiu Tian, hand me my emergency observation report. Let me take a look.”

He Shouzheng handed it over. He Su Ye scanned it.
“Examination: Blood pressure: left arm 105/60 mmHg, right arm 110/60 mmHg. Pulse: 50 beats/min. Respiration: 13 breaths/min. Temperature: 35.7°C. Patient mildly unconscious. Multiple wounds on all four limbs with bleeding. Contusions on the right lower limb. Physiological reflexes present; no pathological reflexes detected. X-ray shows a fracture on the left forearm, 7 cm above the radial palmar edge. MRI suggests mild concussion.
Treatment: Oxygen inhalation (5 L/min), 5% glucose (250 mL) IV drip, blood pressure monitoring with drip adjustment, wound cleaning, and fracture stabilization.”

Thank goodness it wasn’t too serious. Still, this was probably the most rotten luck of his life.

It was rare to see Qiu Tian being so nagging, like he hadn’t spoken in three days.
“Do you know how long you’ve been asleep? A whole night. Your dad was the only family member informed; we didn’t dare tell your other relatives. This little rascal came here in the morning and cried buckets when he saw you. No matter how much we comforted him, he wouldn’t stop, even skipped school. And Fang Kexin—she was exhausted from bringing you back here and is now resting in the duty room.”

He poured himself a glass of water and continued,
“Li Jie and Su Shan are still on their honeymoon; they were so scared they almost flew back. Your boss also came to visit you once. Wait a minute!” He raised a finger.
“What’s this?”

He Su Ye frowned.
“One!”

He raised two fingers.
“And this?”

“Two!”

He raised three fingers.
“What’s one plus one?”

Unable to hold back anymore, He Su Ye snapped, though his voice lacked strength,
“Two! Qiu Tian, why are you so boring? I just woke up, and instead of calling a doctor to check on me or informing my family, you’re wasting time chattering here. What’s your deal?”

Qiu Tian jumped in fright.
“Me! Let me tell you something—don’t hit me! Not now, not later. I already told Shen Xi Fan about this. I know you’ll chew me out, but I couldn’t hold it in. If I didn’t tell her, I’d go crazy, consumed by guilt. I’d despise myself, become a historical villain. Don’t get up! Stay put. She should be here any moment now. I’ll go find the doctor!” With that, he bolted out of the room.
