Su Wan’s Secret Crush — Part 2

When she returned with an answer, Wang Xin said, “Li Chengran said, ‘It’s hard to talk about this at school. I’ll call her tonight.’”

Su Wan was both thrilled and nervous. “He said he’ll call me? Really? When?”

“Well, if you’re so eager, why not go ask him yourself?”

“…” Su Wan hung her head. “I was already spineless enough to hang up on him last night. How could I possibly have the guts to ask him in person?” She jabbed her pen into her notebook and sighed. “Honestly, I think I can guess what he’ll say. He’s probably going to reject me.” After all, she wasn’t pretty, her grades weren’t great, and it was senior year—who would want to accept a confession right now?

Wang Xin patted her back but said nothing.

That night, Su Wan tried to do her homework, but her heart wasn’t in it. She lay in bed, clutching her phone, checking it over and over. Ten o’clock passed, then eleven, then midnight, then one in the morning…

By three in the morning, there was still no call.

Su Wan realized Li Chengran probably wasn’t going to call her.

Yet she refused to give up, keeping her phone plugged in and staring at it repeatedly.

Why wasn’t he calling? He said he would. Didn’t he say he’d give her an answer?

Feeling deeply hurt, Su Wan dragged her puffy eyes to school the next day.

She didn’t run into Li Chengran on the way to school because she was late. When she finally walked into the classroom, everyone was busy with their morning reading. The teacher, pacing the aisles, waved her toward the door.

Same old rule—stand outside as punishment.

Su Wan obediently went to stand by the door, keeping her head down and avoiding everyone’s gaze.

Throughout the first period, she remained downcast, like a beaten puppy. Wang Xin whispered, “So he rejected you?”

It would’ve been better if no one had asked. The moment Wang Xin showed concern, Su Wan’s voice cracked as she said, “He didn’t call me.”

Wang Xin was stunned. “I’ll go ask him for you after class.”

Su Wan nodded fiercely.

At this age, everyone was thin-skinned and timid. Even the smallest things could bring tears. Nobody dared to speak openly, instead relying on intermediaries to run back and forth.

When Wang Xin returned, she looked at Su Wan blankly. “It’s all my fault—I ruined everything.”

Su Wan was confused. “What do you mean?”
