Li Chengran saw her and paused for a moment. Su Wan’s face instantly turned red. “W-What a coincidence. You’re learning here too?”
Everyone in their high school class knew Li Chengran practiced Taekwondo.
But Li Chengran didn’t call her out on the lie. He simply nodded. “Your class is done? Let’s head back together.”
Su Wan was stunned. “Oh… Oh… Okay.” She felt like her heart was about to burst with joy.
Their homes were along the same route, and while they had occasionally taken the bus home together before, it was rare for it to be just the two of them. Sitting side by side on the bus that evening, Su Wan could practically hear her own heartbeat.
They didn’t talk much on the bus. Su Wan kept her head down, barely daring to glance at Li Chengran.
When she got home, she pulled out her diary. Too overwhelmed to write anything, she doodled two little figures instead—one of herself and one of Li Chengran.
In the drawing, they were sitting side by side. Li Chengran was looking out the window, while she stared at her knees.
Watching herself and Li Chengran sitting side by side on the bus, Su Wan felt a rush of warmth spread from her heart to her entire body.
She and he had taken the bus together.
Their arms had brushed against each other.
Their arms were touching!
Su Wan clutched her face and rolled around on her bed, squealing with joy.

During the following Taekwondo sessions, every time Su Wan passed by the advanced class’s door, she would straighten her back, as if she were walking a red carpet. She took extra care with her appearance and strolled slowly, sneaking a glance inside. If she managed to catch even a glimpse of Li Chengran, her mood would be lifted for the entire day.
What is the meaning of “Having met the gentleman, how could one not be delighted?” This. This was precisely that.
Before long, Su Wan found herself unsatisfied with only seeing Li Chengran at the dojo. One day, on their way home, she noticed him carrying two sandbags and asked, “What are those for?”
“For weight training,” Li Chengran replied. “To build strength.”
Su Wan’s eyes lit up. “Can I borrow them for a few days?”
Li Chengran turned to look at her. The streetlights outside the bus window cast fleeting patterns of light and shadow on their faces.
“Sure.” He handed her the sandbags.
The moment Su Wan took them, her face fell—they were so heavy!
