In the game, he didn’t have a dark past or anything.
What’s going on, kid? You’re ten. Life is supposed to be fun!
“Well, I don’t know much about you, so I’ll just list some of the things I’ve found enjoyable,” I replied.
I decided to seriously think about it and gave him my answer—things I personally considered fun in life.
“Have you ever noticed how refreshing the crisp morning air can be? The feeling of clear, cool air filling your lungs is quite delightful, which makes waking up every morning enjoyable for me. Do you like sunny skies? A completely cloudless blue sky is wonderful, but so is a sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. And the sensation of wind carrying those clouds across the fields—it’s invigorating, don’t you think? That’s why I enjoy walks and riding horses. Both activities let me revel in the beauty of nature.
Then there’s reading. Don’t you find it thrilling to encounter a story so captivating that you can’t wait to turn the page, yet you hesitate because you don’t want it to end? Although I’m merely following words on a page, I vividly imagine each scene in my mind. It’s such a joyous experience.”
When it came to pleasures like these, I could list them one by one.
I glanced at him to see if this sort of thing resonated, and his yellow eyes had widened with a newfound sparkle.
“Tomorrow morning, I’ll open the window and take a deep breath. I’ll look at the sky too. What else? Is there more? Please, tell me more!”
He had latched onto my words with great enthusiasm.
Gone was his lethargic attitude, replaced by a keen eagerness.
“Are you sure my idea of fun is enough?”
“Yes! The way you describe it is incredibly captivating. Please, tell me more!”
Driven by Curiosity, I Spoke of Every Enjoyment I Could Think of Until Our Scheduled Time Ended
I listed all the joys I could think of: the deliciousness and charm of my favorite foods, the colors, shapes, and scents of my favorite flowers, and why they captivated me.
I described the cuteness of my beloved horse, the adorableness of my cherished cat, the unique textures of their fur, and their amusing quirks.
By the time I had gone through everything, our respective parents arrived to collect us.
The duke and duchess were visibly stunned when they heard from their butler and maid, who had been observing from afar, about what had transpired. They looked at their son, utterly bewildered.
Their normally lethargic son had been listening to my every word with rapt attention, so the duke family’s butler and maid had understandably been taken aback.
As soon as greetings were exchanged, the boy raised his voice and declared:
“Father! I’ve discovered the joy of life! It’s Lady Linntia!”
…!?
Wait, isn’t that incredibly misleading!?
The duke and duchess froze with smiles plastered on their faces.
My father was speechless, while my mother seemed to be struggling to suppress a grin.
“From now on, I want to share in all of Lady Linntia’s joys!”
The boy’s eyes sparkled with an intense warmth as he grasped my hands tightly, and I realized this wasn’t just a misunderstanding.
I was being fervently proposed to…!
“Well, as my son seems quite enthusiastic, would you consider the engagement?”
The duke finally broke the silence, switching into a professional demeanor.
The duchess beside him radiated determination, as though she wouldn’t let this opportunity slip by.
My father, who was nearly catatonic, and my mother, who was practically celebrating, were swept along, and before I knew it, my engagement to the formerly lethargic duke’s son had been settled in no time.
Thus, the matchmaking tea party came to an end.
With my partner decided, I never ended up having a tea party with the prince.
Unintentionally, I had eliminated the prince’s fiancée position. Oh well. Considering the political power of the duke’s family, this engagement was actually a step up. With them being so eager, and with no reason for me to refuse, there was no need to decline.
My fiancé genuinely took an interest in me, wished to spend time together, and actively engaged with me in various activities.
He came to love the things I enjoyed, and we experienced them together.
