We Cannot Be Friends — Chapter 8: Marriage Is a Grave—Choose Your Burial Partner Wisely. Part 1

The day after the incident, I not only deleted Chu Ke Huan from Facebook but also blocked him to prevent any future complications. I didn’t want to waste my time thinking I could change the life of someone I barely knew with just a few words.

Before heading out, I slipped on my engagement ring. The sunlit streets shimmered, and the diamond sparkled with a rainbow of colors. I felt clean, as if all traces of the previous night’s chaos had been washed away. Rejecting Chu Ke Huan hadn’t been as difficult as I’d initially thought—it was all about maintaining the right distance. And, of course, enduring my friends’ peculiar reactions—

“You’re such a waste! You unfriended him? Do you know how rare it is to come across a pre-wedding one-night stand candidate like that? Once it’s gone, it’s gone!” Ke Fei lamented dramatically, as if she had been unfriended herself.

“That’s your ideal type, not mine. I’d get indigestion.” I sipped my coffee leisurely.

“And you dare talk to me about being healthy? Your stomach’s as fragile as paper, and yet you drink coffee every day!” Ke Fei rolled her eyes dramatically. “The joy of indulging your desires is all about satisfying the senses in the moment. Being able to indulge is a blessing—who cares about health?”

“Are we talking about food or hunting for men?” I was starting to lose track.

“Zhou Wei Wei, if you still think we’re talking about food after all this time, then you’re hopeless!”

“Whatever. I’m just not cut out for these kinds of things. Besides, now you can pursue Chu Ke Huan yourself. Nothing to feel sorry about.”

“I’ve already got a new target! That foreign company guy came back to life last night...” Ke Fei’s face lit up, her spring-like joy practically glowing.

“Morgan Stanley? No wonder you didn’t respond to my messages all night! I ended up... never mind, I’ve forgotten about it.”

“Just treat Chu Ke Huan as my wedding gift to you. Enjoy it! Think about it—once you’re married, you’ll spend the rest of your life legally sleeping with only one man. Doesn’t that sound boring?” Ke Fei added her usual twisted reasoning with a dramatic flair. “A simple girl like you, if you don’t experience the world before marriage, you’re bound to cheat later.”

“I’m very happy with my current life, thank you for your concern.”

“Fine, then congrats on stepping into the grave of love! Just make sure to seat me at the table with the most handsome guys at the wedding banquet—you know what I mean.” Ke Fei winked before heading back to her seat.

Watching her elegant figure retreat, I resolved to walk confidently back to my own path. The slightly loose ring on my hand reminded me to call Hao Yi.
