“Rule #2 of our three-point agreement: no interference in each other’s personal lives.” He finally snapped, his voice sharp and resolute: “When you had dinner with Sun Shaoguo, did I say a single word?!”
She was so furious that she shouted back: “I want a divorce! Rule #3 of our three-point agreement: either party may terminate the marriage if deemed necessary!”
“Meng Zhe Zhe!” He seemed to have been pushed to his limit, roaring like a madman.
“Stop it! You lunatic! Hooligan!”
“Fine! I’ll show you what a hooligan really is!” He was breathing heavily, seething with rage. “I refuse to believe I can’t handle you! You keep causing trouble every day—don’t think I don’t know! You just want a divorce. Well, I won’t let you! For the rest of your life, I’m dragging you with me! You don’t love me? Fine! You don’t have to love me, but I’ll still drag you with me!”
“No!” She was on the verge of tears, struggling futilely. She was no match for him. “Not today! I mean it—not today!”
“I don’t care! Don’t give me that nonsense about safety! You won’t even have a child with me. Don’t think I don’t know who’s on your mind! Forget about it! For the rest of your life, you’re my wife! I’m telling you, don’t even dream about it!”
Suddenly, tears began streaming down her face. “I’m pregnant.”
The two of them froze. He stood there, dumbfounded, his hands still gripping her arms but unmoving. After a long while, he seemed to snap out of it, jumping away as if pricked by a needle. Then, realizing something was amiss, he leaned forward again. “Zhe Zhe…”
She covered her face with her hands, sobbing. He tried to pull her hands away but didn’t dare use too much force. “Zhe Zhe, don’t cry. I’m sorry. I was wrong. I’m a hooligan—it’s my fault. Hit me if you want, all right? Just don’t cry.”
He was at a complete loss. “Don’t cry. I’ll agree to anything you want. Just stop crying.”
She cried even louder. “I want a divorce!”
“No!”
“I don’t want to have this child!”
“No!”
She cried like a child, letting out a loud “wah” and bursting into tears again. Exhausted, he slid down the sofa onto the floor, pulling a cigarette from his pocket. He struck his lighter but stopped halfway, suddenly annoyed, and crumpled the entire pack into a ball. He hesitated, about to throw it away, but in the end, he clenched it tightly instead.
“Zhe Zhe, stop crying. If you really don’t want this child, then you don’t have to have it.”
She paused, her sobbing momentarily quieting.
He let out a self-deprecating laugh. “See? Yu Jiang Hao just can’t win against Meng Zhe Zhe.”
She sniffled. “But what about your mom? If she finds out, won’t she make a huge scene?”
“If you don’t tell her, and I don’t tell her, how would she ever find out?”
