My Beautiful Sister and Me — Part 15

“Well, now that things have settled, shall we explore?” I asked.
“Let’s start with the library!” Adeline suggested.

“Tomorrow, I have meetings with this country’s diplomatic representatives. Want to join me, Adeline? It would be good practice for your translation skills.”

“Really?! Can I?”

“Of course. I’ll introduce you as my apprentice—it’ll be fine.”

“I love you, Sister!”

“I know. Now, let’s go.”

When I requested a leave of absence from my superior to lay low during this transition period, I discovered part of the time had been designated as an official business trip.

“Make the most of it and establish connections while you’re at it,” my superior said, ever pragmatic.

Despite the challenges, the work was enriching, and the time flew by.

When Adeline and I arrived back at the station, Freddie was waiting for us, smiling warmly as always.

“Welcome back, both of you,” he greeted us.

Unable to suppress my reaction, I muttered, “You’re as dependable as ever, aren’t you, Senior?”

Freddie chuckled, while Adeline sighed in exasperation.

“Don’t you think it’s about time you noticed, Sister?” Adeline said, raising an eyebrow.

“What do you mean?” I asked, frowning at the two of them.

Freddie took my hand, meeting my gaze seriously.

“Do you think anyone else would go this far just because you’re a junior?” he asked. “I love you, Amanda. I admire your determination, and I want to stay by your side forever. That’s why I’ve done all this.”

“…You love me?” I asked, stunned.

“I wouldn’t have gifted you a dress or spent all those weekends subtly vying with Adeline for your attention if I didn’t. When you said you were becoming a commoner, I agonized over what to do. But hearing you’d join the Marquis’ family made things convenient for me.”

“Convenient?”

“Yes. Until you feel ready, let’s get engaged. You can keep working after marriage, and my home is closer to the palace. If we live together, you’ll have a house in the capital, just like you wanted.”

“Wait, what…?”

“Didn’t you say so yourself? You wanted a house in the capital, a partner who wouldn’t mind you continuing to work, and marriage if you felt like it. All your conditions are met, and I love you. So, what do you say?”

Unlike the calm demeanor he had when we first met, Freddie now gazed at me with eyes that burned like green sapphires. When he kissed my hand, the meaning of his words finally sank in, and I managed to stammer a reply.

“Freddie, you’ve… liked me this whole time?!”

My face turned bright red, my eyes wide with shock. The sight seemed to amuse both Freddie and Adeline, who couldn’t hold back their laughter—or was it more of a mocking chuckle? Embarrassed, I hid my face in my hands.

“At last, you’ve figured it out. I’m not asking for an answer right away, but I’ll be waiting. And once everything’s settled, I won’t hold back—I’ll come after you in full force. Prepare yourself, Amanda,” Freddie said with a gentle hug.

Adeline, however, wasn’t having it.
