When Spring Ends, I Shall See You Again — Volume 1. Chapter 4: The Savior. Part 2

From its towering height, it gazed down at her for a long moment

Then, slowly, it withdrew back into the water.

Hong Ning was stunned.

It recognized me.

It had suffered a terrible loss the last time.

Uncertain whether the powerful figure who had saved her was still nearby, the dragon didn’t dare to attack rashly.

Instead, it hovered half-submerged, eyes flashing, watching her cautiously.

A standoff between human and dragon.

Finally, as if losing interest, the demon dragon lowered its head

And sank back into the depths of the pool.

Hong Ning exhaled softly

Then immediately grew anxious.

Bai Ling had gone to its lair to retrieve the Divine Bell.

If the dragon returned now, he might run straight into it.

Even if Bai Ling wasn’t afraid, tonight’s plan would be ruined.

And worse

If the demon dragon realized they were after the bell, it would become far more difficult to lure it out again for sealing.

There was no time to think.

Hong Ning got up and quickly walked toward the water.

The surface of the pool remained perfectly still, reflecting the moon like a flawless disk of white jade.

Did it really leave?

Hong Ning leaned forward, peering into the water.

She hesitated, wondering if she should go in and lure it out again

But in that brief moment of distraction

A sudden, thunderous splash!

A column of water surged up and drenched her from head to toe.

The demon dragon was using tricks!

Hong Ning’s heart pounded.

Her vision blurred from the water, but she knew this was bad.

Without hesitation, she dropped and rolled away to dodge.

The demon dragon, having confirmed that no one else was around, felt emboldened.

With a powerful lunge, it soared out of the water and landed heavily on the shore.

It was massive, at least seven to nine meters long.

Its scales and claws gleamed under the moonlight, surrounded by a faint aura of dark mist.

Before Hong Ning could catch her breath, the dragon lunged at her with razor-sharp fangs.

She dodged

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

But the dragon, growing impatient, coiled its massive body around her

And with a gleeful glint in its eyes, it tightened its grip.

Hong Ning shuddered.

Its body was as thick as a barrel, and the countless shimmering scales trembled against each other.

A wave of revulsion crawled up her spine.

Without hesitation, she raised the Demon-Reflecting Mirror, holding it tightly against her chest

At the same time, she began chanting the incantation.

Above her

The clear night sky rumbled with the distant echo of thunder.

Far away, within the concealed formation, Wen Xin lowered his sword with a calm expression.

The thunderous sounds from above sent a jolt of fear through the demon dragon.

It immediately released Hong Ning, shrinking back in instinctive submission.

Curling its body into a defensive coil, it no longer dared to attack.

Hong Ning didn’t waste time.

She ignored the cold sweat on her forehead and focused entirely on the incantation.

By consuming human souls, the demon dragon had been refining its spirit pearl, significantly increasing its power.

It did not want to retreat.

It wanted to attack

But it feared that she might actually summon divine lightning.

It hesitated, its tail swaying restlessly.

Time dragged on.

Hong Ning’s spiritual energy was running out.

The thunder overhead was growing weaker.

Sensing that the lightning was no real threat, the demon dragon grew bolder.

It began advancing toward her again.

Hong Ning flicked her wrist.

A golden flash of light flared

The Demon-Reflecting Mirror.

The dragon jerked back, startled.

Hong Ning remained calm on the surface, but inside, she was getting anxious.

Bai Ling has been gone for so long

Has he found the Divine Bell yet?

She kept her gaze locked on the dragon, not daring to let her guard down.

For now, as long as she held the mirror, it wouldn’t dare attack.

She should be able to stall for a little while longer.

But just as she was calculating her next move

The demon dragon suddenly grew impatient.

It shook its head from side to side

And then

A soft golden glow flickered to life on its left horn.

What… is that?

Hong Ning sensed something strange and grew uneasy.

At first, the golden light on the dragon’s horn was just a tiny speck, flickering like a firefly

But after ten or so flashes

It suddenly expanded several times over, bursting into a dazzling radiance.

The entire area was instantly illuminated as if it were broad daylight.

At the same moment

The Demon-Reflecting Mirror lost its glow, becoming utterly useless.

Bathed in the brilliant light, Hong Ning finally saw the object on the dragon’s horn.

Her face drained of color.

She shouted aloud

“The Divine Bell! The Divine Bell is on its horn!”

So that’s why!

The Divine Bell was originally a celestial artifact, capable of expanding and shrinking at will.

The demon dragon had miniaturized it and hooked it onto its horn like an ornament.

No wonder Bai Ling hadn’t returned yet.
