When Spring Ends, I Shall See You Again — Volume 1. Chapter 12: Whose Tribulation. Part 3

Blinded by desire, Lu Jiu only laughed. “And what if he does? Even he has to give my father some respect. Besides…”

His warm tongue flicked against the shell of her ear.

Half disgusted, half enraged, Hong Ning’s eyes snapped open. “You—”

She stopped.

Her gaze turned hazy, unfocused.

Seeing this, Lu Jiu’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

He lightly patted her cheek with a smirk. “It’s chilly outside. Let’s go in.”

Just as he expected, Hong Ning lowered her head and let him guide her inside.

Lu Jiu surveyed the room, his gaze settling on the crimson camellia in the vase.

His delicate brows furrowed in apparent confusion.

Turning to her, he gave her a sidelong glance. “I didn’t expect him to be so cautious. What exactly is your relationship with him?”

Hong Ning murmured, “I like him.”

Lu Jiu wasn’t surprised at all. Instead, he laughed heartily, as if amused by her misfortune. “What a pity, what a shame. Everyone knows he is the most sentimental of all. Lu Yao waited twenty thousand years for him—why bring such suffering upon yourself? Why not come with me instead?”

The primordial yin of an untouched maiden was highly beneficial for cultivation.

His gaze swept over her, assessing her condition. Confirming his suspicions, his smile deepened. “You must have never tasted the pleasures of this world. Words cannot do it justice—it’s an experience beyond description.”

Hong Ning looked dazed. “What?”

Lu Jiu didn’t answer. Instead, he gently squeezed her hand, his voice growing even softer. “Let me show you the greatest pleasures of the mortal world—just once, and you’ll feel like a goddess. What do you say?”

Hong Ning lowered her gaze, hesitated for a moment, then murmured, “Mmm.”

Seeing her shy demeanor, Lu Jiu’s lust flared. Wrapping his arms around her, he led her toward the bed. “Just give in to me, and you’ll understand the joy of it. I promise, you’ll never want to stop…”

Before he could finish, a sharp crack rang out.

Hong Ning was gone from his embrace.

At the same time, a blinding bolt of white lightning shot in from the window, streaking straight toward him.

The room was instantly illuminated, as bright as midday.

Lu Jiu froze for a brief second before vanishing.

Finally seizing a chance to escape, Hong Ning reappeared beside the table.

She knew time was running out.

Without hesitation, she reached for the jade vase.

But just as her fingers were about to grasp it, a hand suddenly extended from the side, snatching the vase along with the camellia.

A burst of laughter followed.

“How amusing. Truly, this is getting more interesting.”

Hong Ning recoiled in shock.

“A mere Heart-Sealing Technique, and you thought you could deceive me?”

Lu Jiu stood by the table, effortlessly holding the vase in one hand, his appearance as elegant as ever, resembling a celestial being.

A chilling sensation crept through Hong Ning’s body, as if she had plunged into an icy abyss.

She couldn’t comprehend where she had gone wrong.

Her plan had been flawless—she had intentionally met his gaze while casting the Heart-Sealing Technique on herself. Once her mind was sealed, whatever she saw would be meaningless. She had feigned enchantment to lower his guard, intending to strike when he least expected it and escape to summon Jin Xiu.

She had been so sure that he wouldn’t notice.

But now, it was clear—he had seen through everything from the start.

Submission.

Betrayal.

Every move she made had been under his watchful eye.

He was merely playing a game of cat and mouse.

Lu Jiu, of course, knew what she was thinking. “Confused?” He smiled. “It’s simple—I never used enchantment magic on you.”

A deafening boom rang through her mind.

She finally realized her fatal mistake.

In trying to deceive him, she had deliberately pretended to be bewitched—yet he had never actually cast any enchantment at all!

Her body stiffened, her vision swayed, and in the next moment, she bolted for the door.

Behind her, Lu Jiu’s laughter followed, rich with amusement.

“The night is long and lonely—why not keep me entertained for a while?”

The full moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver glow over the landscape.

Tonight was an ideal time for cultivation and magical duels.

Earlier, Hong Ning had attempted her attack by borrowing power from the moon’s yin energy. However, the moon, being an yin entity itself, also served to amplify demonic energy.

Lu Jiu raised an eyebrow. “Why aren’t you running anymore?”

Hong Ning forced herself to stay calm. “Would running even help?”

Lu Jiu chuckled. “At least you’re not completely foolish. Go ahead, show me whatever tricks you have.”

Hong Ning deliberately avoided looking into his eyes. “You really won’t let me go?”

Sometimes, it wasn’t about how good something was—it was about whether one could obtain it.
