When Spring Ends, I Shall See You Again — Volume 2. Chapter 16: My Path, My Way. Part 2

Hong Ning’s voice was calm. “Does His Highness Zhongtian still intend to seal me away?”

Jin Xiu (Zhongtian Wang) gave no response.

To him, that night’s events were nothing new. A thousand years ago, he had personally sent her to the underworld, had watched as she placed her hand in that man’s, and together they had reincarnated, completing a lifetime’s love. In the mortal realm, ten lifetimes had passed, and such scenes had repeated over and over again. Each time he witnessed them, he spent sleepless nights.

She had fulfilled her promise.

He had remembered her.

Yet she had nearly forgotten him completely.

Had it not been for this act of defying fate, they would have continued on as before, with no ties between them whatsoever.

Hong Ning sneered at herself. “I suppose there’s no need anymore. With you all around, what little power I have is useless anyway.”

His expression remained unchanged, his tone calm. “This matter is of great consequence. I cannot let you act recklessly.”

Hong Ning replied, “I was just an ignorant mortal overestimating myself, foolish enough to challenge you immortals, so I brought this humiliation upon myself. But now that things have played out exactly as you wished, must you really come here just to mock me?”

He shook his head. “The Celestial Consort of Kunlun was originally a mortal. Her surname was Wen.”

Hong Ning was stunned.

He smiled faintly. “She had a blood-related younger sister in the mortal world. Yang Zhen is her descendant.”

To have such a connection despite so many generations—what a coincidence. Hong Ning lowered her gaze, chuckling. “No wonder he looks so much like Bai Ling.”

His voice was gentle. “Why do you cling so tightly to mortal emotions?”

“Because of you all,” Hong Ning answered without hesitation. “Seeing you, I loathe the Dao of Immortality. I loathe the will of the heavens. If you truly feel even a shred of guilt, then show some mercy—help Hu Yue and her husband. The Zhong Tian King once used the waters of the Jade Pool to reshape my body. If he could do it for me, he can surely do the same for Hu Yue.”

The heavens do not tolerate unions between humans and demons. Back then, Lian Hua and Hai Ming chose to let go—for their love to survive in another way, a form of protection wrapped in wisdom. But to outsiders, such a choice may have seemed reasonable, yet they ultimately betrayed their own hearts. Who could guarantee they would never regret it?

Hu Yue refused to let go. That was why she ended up in her current predicament. But the suffering others saw in her life—was it truly suffering in her and her husband's eyes? Whether it was good or bad, only they had the right to judge.

Hong Ning sighed. “I lied to her. I heard she disappeared, and Young Master Qi is already dead. Someone must have forcibly taken her away. If she can be reborn alongside her husband, she would surely be willing. Zhong Tian King, if nothing else, take pity on them.”

Jin Xiu’s voice was indifferent. “Hu Yue is not of our kind.”

Hong Ning smiled. “But your ties with the Northern Immortal Realm run deep. Asking for a favor shouldn’t be too difficult.”

Jin Xiu was silent for a moment before finally saying, “If she is willing, I will do my best.”

Hong Ning did not thank him. She simply started walking away. “Whether you try or not has nothing to do with me. It’s your kindness to bestow.”

After taking a dozen steps, she heard his voice clearly from behind her. “Do you still remember why you entered this world?”
