When Spring Ends, I Shall See You Again — Volume 3. Chapter 1: A Thousand-Year Barrier. Part 1

From a distance, Mei Xian [Immortal Mei] spotted Xing Xian [Immortal Xing] approaching. Xing Xian proactively lifted the curtain with a coquettish laugh.

“His Excellency, the Divine Lord, is inside. If you have something to report, Mei-jie [Elder Sister Mei], you should go in quickly.”

Mei Xian stopped in her tracks and looked at her. “The young lord of the Northern Realm has been injured.”

Xing Xian sighed. “I was wondering about that. Aside from His Excellency himself, who else could have broken the seal? So that girl’s spiritual power wasn’t completely sealed after all… Could it be that the Celestial Maiden made a mistake in her calculations?”

Though she spoke as if in concern, a flicker of schadenfreude still flashed in her eyes.

She thought she had merely been used and was pleased with herself, unaware of who had truly been using whom. Mei Xian smirked coldly to herself but said nothing more, stepping silently into the room.

Jin Xiu stood beside a table, flipping through the scrolls on the desk. His expression remained as calm as ever.

Mei Xian stepped forward and knelt. “Your Excellency.”

Jin Xiu, as if having expected this, closed the scroll in his hands. “Rise.”

Mei Xian spoke softly, “I was the one who broke the seal.”

Jin Xiu replied, “The matter is already settled. There’s no need to dwell on it.”

Her eyes reddened slightly as she lowered her gaze. “I…”

It had been Xing Xian who had leaked the news about the seal. Mei Xian had been careless, failing to see the hidden scheme, and had acted solely to keep it a secret for him. It wasn’t until the young lord of the Northern Realm returned with severe injuries that she realized she had been manipulated. The most frustrating part was that she had no proof—no evidence to clear her name. If she spoke now, it would seem like she was trying to shift the blame.

Jin Xiu studied her for a long moment before sighing and nodding. “I do not blame you. Stand up.”

She had made a grave misstep, and she had expected harsh punishment. Yet in the past two months, Jin Xiu had never once mentioned it, leaving her anxious and uneasy. Now, seeing that he truly had no intention of pursuing the matter, she hesitated before slowly rising to her feet.

Jin Xiu stepped toward her, just about to speak when Xing Xian’s voice called from outside.

“Your Excellency, the Celestial Maiden has arrived.”

Before the words had fully landed, Lu Yao had already stepped inside.

She wore robes of white and pale blue, as pristine as the sky and clouds. Her high, elegant hair bun only enhanced her ethereal beauty. Looking at Jin Xiu, she smiled. “I’ve disturbed your peace these past days. But fortunately, A-Jiu’s [Lu Jiu's] condition has improved. He should wake up by tomorrow, all thanks to you.”

Jin Xiu gestured for her to sit.

Mei Xian understood and immediately withdrew.

As she passed by Lu Yao, Lu Yao reached out and gently held her arm, her voice full of concern. “You don’t look well. Have you been overworking yourself?”

“Just some difficulties in comprehending a heart mantra lately—I was too eager to progress.” Mei Xian answered smoothly, meeting Lu Yao’s gaze for a brief moment before giving a faint smile. “The Celestial Maiden should also be cautious of inner demons.”

Lu Yao maintained her gentle smile and released her hold. “Cultivation is always like this. It just requires a little more focus.”

Mei Xian lowered her head and left.
