When Spring Ends, I Shall See You Again — Volume 2. Chapter 15: Vengeance. Part 2

“She still seems to hold a grudge against A-Jiu.
“But don’t worryI’ve disciplined him.
“He wouldn’t dare lay a hand on her again.”
Jin Xiu said nothing.
Just as Lu Yao was about to continue, the curtain rustled.
A celestial maid hurried inside and reported respectfully,
“Divine Lord, the Chong Zhou City God has an urgent matter and requests an immediate audience.”
A Dangerous Game
Her robe burned like fire.
There were some women who seemed born to wear such bright, vivid colors, their presence naturally bold and striking.
Her delicate figure became even more graceful beneath the flowing fabric.
She kept her gaze lowered, moving carefullyyet her long lashes trembled slightly, carrying an unexpected hint of charm.
Behind the thin veil, her features remained partially hidden, lending an air of mystery and allure.
She stepped out of the room, holding a tray in her hands.
The tray carried fruits and a jug of wine.
Lu Jiu regarded her with a mix of appreciation and suspicion.
“This girl looks a little familiar…”
The words slipped out without much thought.
He didn’t notice that, for a brief moment, the woman stiffened slightly.
But Hu Yue did.
And hearing this, she believed Hong Ning’s claim even more.
Feeling playful, she suppressed her laughter and teased,
“How could that be?
“This is a new little sister I just met.
“Her surname is Lin, and I specifically invited her tonight to introduce her to you, Cousin.”
The disguised appearance was already unusual, and the dim lighting helped to obscure her features further.
Lu Jiu dismissed his doubts.
“I thought you only cared about enjoying yourself,” he smirked.
“At least you still remember me.”
Hu Yue’s expression shifted slightly.
Though displeased, she held back her reaction and forced a polite smile.
“How could I forget you, Cousin?”
A soft, lazy voice spoke next.
“So this is the cousin you were talking about, Sister Hu?”
Her tone was sweet, yet casual, carrying a trace of indifferenceas if she had no interest in the guest before her.
Lu Jiu had encountered countless women.
Yet this was the first time a woman had completely ignored him.
And she was only a mortal.
His interest was piqued.
He studied her, a playful smile curling at his lips.
“This is our first meeting, yet you won’t even offer me a drink?”
The woman set the tray down without hesitation.
“Cousin, enjoy.”
Her delicate wrist was like white jade, flawless and smooth.
Lu Jiu couldn’t help but feel a stir in his heart.
He reached out, intending to lift her veil.
“A rare beauty indeed,” he remarked.
“If you’re my cousin’s sister, then you’re my sister too.
“What’s the need for formality?”
Hong Ning smoothly dodged his hand.
Her gaze remained averted, her tone carrying a trace of feigned displeasure.
“Cousin, what are you doing?”
Tonight was extraordinarily dangerous.
One misstep, and she would be exposed
With no chance of survival.
Of course, Hu Yue knew nothing of this.
She simply continued playing along, teasing him.
“Cousin, how could you be so improper?”
Lu Jiu’s eyes curved into a charming smile.
“Well, if you’re calling me cousin,
“Why won’t you even look at me?”
Hong Ning replied without hesitation.
“Sister Hu told me not to look into Cousin’s eyes so carelessly.”
Lu Jiu glanced at Hu Yue.
He wasn’t offended
In fact, he seemed rather pleased.
He smiled softly.
“You actually believe her?
“If I say you can look, then you can.”
Hong Ning lifted the wine jug and began pouring.
“If Cousin is willing to drink a few cups of my wine,
“I will let you look.
“If notthen forget it.”
A mere mortal woman.
And Hu Yue was right here
Why would he be suspicious?
Lu Jiu chuckled.
“If you keep your word, I’ll drink ten cups if you want.”
Hong Ning raised her cup.
“The first cup is for Cousin.”
Lu Jiu raised a brow.
“What am I being honored for?”
